Destination Paradise: A movie that shows the struggles of illegal immigrants from India
White Silhouette Production released a new Indian-Czech-German-Italian short movie called Destination Paradise.
The famous German actor Arndt Schwering-Sohnrey will appear in one of the leading roles and the film also stars the popular Czech actor Hynek Čermák. The soundtrack was handled by Jan Drábek, a member of the music group MYDY. The story is about a young Indian man who leaves everything behind in India and he’s hoping to make a living in a better place, which is London. Unfortunately, he finds himself stuck on a farm somewhere in the Czech countryside.
The main character is portrayed by Indian actor Vansh Luthra. He graduated from the Prague International Film School and after completing his studies,
he stayed in the Czech Republic where he founded the White Silhouette Production together with Eshaan Rajadhyaksha, director of the movie. Now they are trying to break into the first film league. The film has been completed during the summer and its creators will subsequently seek to be included in international festivals such as the Berlinale. Therefore, it could potentially be seen at the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary.
“I personally come from a very privileged background, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to study abroad. I was deciding between USA and Czech Republic but I ended up choosing to come here.” says Vansh. “There were multiple reasons why we created Destination Paradise. Number one reason is that we just wanted to make a film. Another reason is that when we were contemplating about making the film, there was a racist attack on us. If this can happen to a privileged person like me, what happens to people who come here illegally?”
For Indian people, Europe is paradise. Living in Europe means that they have achieved the ultimate goal. These illegal immigrants sell of everything they own, they take enormous loans just to pay to some agents that promise fake visas and passports to them. They have no idea what is going to happen to them when they come to Europe but they still risk everything in order to get there. Creators of the movie stated that this opened their eyes about immigration from India and they wanted to do something that would bring change. Thousands of Indians have to face this issue and it is important to bring it to people’s attentions.
